The 2009 refurbishment of the Children’s Inpatient and Assessment Wards at Doncaster Royal Infirmary involved upgrading existing paediatric accommodation to provide improved clinical and patient facilities.
The works included internal strip-out and reconfiguration, new flooring, wall and ceiling finishes, upgraded lighting and electrical services, refurbishment of clinical and support areas, and associated mechanical, fire and life-safety works.
Particular consideration was given to creating a safe, welcoming and child-friendly environment while meeting the specialist requirements of a healthcare setting.
Delivered within a live hospital, the project required careful phasing, infection-control measures, segregation and coordination with hospital operations to minimise disruption to patients, families and clinical staff.
